Our Quality & Safety Standards
A closer look at how we choose fragrance, formulate our products, test for quality and reduce waste where possible.
Fragrance is at the heart of what we do. Whether it is a candle, reed diffuser, perfume, room mist, hand wash, body wash or bath foam, the fragrance needs to smell beautiful, perform well and be suitable for the product it is going into.
We use professionally developed fragrance oils from specialist suppliers. These are created by fragrance experts and are designed for consistency, stability, scent quality and safe use within the correct product type.
There is a common belief that essential oils are always safer or more sustainable than fragrance oils, but the reality is more complicated. Essential oils are natural, but they are still complex chemical mixtures. They can contain allergens, restricted components and materials that may not be suitable for every product.
Some essential oils also require large amounts of plant material, land, water, farming, harvesting, distillation and transport. For us, the question is not simply whether a fragrance is natural or synthetic. The better question is whether it is suitable, safe, stable, responsibly sourced and used at the correct level.
Our fragrance oils are supplied with the appropriate safety documentation, including IFRA guidance where applicable. IFRA standards help guide the safe use of fragrance materials across different product types.
This matters because each product is used differently. A candle is burned. A reed diffuser evaporates slowly into a room. A room mist is sprayed into the air. A perfume is worn on the skin. A body wash, hand wash or bath foam is used on the skin and then rinsed away.
Each product type needs to be considered properly, rather than treated as if all fragranced products are the same.
We use fragrance at levels suitable for the product, and we follow the relevant safety, labelling and formulation requirements for each category.
Candles are a real flame product, so they should always be made carefully and used responsibly.
There is a lot of oversimplified advice about candle wax. No single wax type automatically makes a candle safe, clean or sustainable. The quality of a candle depends on the full formulation: the wax, wick, vessel, fragrance load, burn pool, flame behaviour, testing and how the candle is used.
We choose our candle materials based on performance, consistency, safety, scent throw and overall responsibility. Our candles are made and tested in small batches so we can check how they burn, how the fragrance performs and how the finished product behaves in real use.
Good candle care also matters. Trimming the wick, avoiding draughts, not burning for too long and following the safety instructions all help create a better and safer burn.
Our reed diffusers, room mists and perfumes are designed for beautiful everyday fragrance, each with its own formulation and safety considerations.
For reed diffusers, we consider fragrance performance, evaporation rate, reed quality, base compatibility and overall product safety. We also think about practical sustainability, including refill options and reeds that are less prone to clogging, helping extend the life of the product and reduce unnecessary replacements.
Room mists are made for an instant fragrance boost and are formulated for their intended use.
Perfume is designed to be worn on the skin, so it needs to be carefully formulated, stable and suitable for its purpose.
As with all fragranced products, we follow the relevant safety guidance, documentation and labelling requirements for each product type.
Our skin and body care products are made with care, consistency and product safety in mind. These include products such as body wash, hand wash and bath foam.
Cosmetic products have their own safety requirements. They need to be formulated appropriately, assessed, documented and labelled correctly.
We use suitable ingredients for the product type and intended use, and we pay attention to how the product feels on the skin as well as how it smells.
Where relevant, our liquid products use 250ml biopolymer biodegradable bottles and biodegradable labels, helping us reduce reliance on conventional packaging while still creating products that look and feel beautiful.
Sustainability is not one single claim. It is a series of choices across ingredients, packaging, production, refills, shipping and product life.
Where possible, many of our products can be refilled in store. This allows customers to keep and reuse their existing bottles and containers rather than replacing them every time. It is one of the most practical ways we can reduce packaging waste while still offering beautiful, high-quality home fragrance and body care.
Our refill options also help customers return to favourite fragrances without needing to buy a completely new product each time. This is especially useful for products such as reed diffusers, room mists, hand wash, body wash and bath foam, where the original bottle or container can often be reused.
We also look for packaging that is practical, attractive and lower impact wherever possible. This includes options such as recycled kraft boxes, uncoated paper/card sleeves, biodegradable labels, compostable ties where suitable, biopolymer biodegradable bottles for selected liquid products, and packaging that protects the product without unnecessary waste.
We make many of our products in small batches, which helps us control quality and reduce overproduction.
We want our customers to enjoy beautiful fragrance with confidence.
That means choosing materials carefully, following the correct safety guidance, testing our products properly, labelling them clearly, reducing waste where we can, and being honest about sustainability.
We do not make exaggerated claims, and we do not believe in frightening people with half-truths. Our approach is simple: thoughtful formulation, responsible fragrance use, quality materials, careful making and clear information.
